Nobody Hates Warren Kinsella

Recommend this post
Warren is rejoicing because apparently "Michael Ignatieff now hates you nearly as much as he hates me!" For those of you just tuning in, Warren is happy because when he can write about how someone hates him - whether they do or not - he can make a big stink and everyone will pay attention.

And people do pay attention to him. He's about as important as a Canadian politico can get without having to delete their blog. But when he gets shuffled into Harper's cabinet, he'll have to give it up.

And Warren is good at his job. When it comes to going out and destroying people, I can't think of anyone better in the Canadian backrooms. I read his book "Kicking Ass," and while he borrows a lot from the Democrats, it's still an interesting read.

It is really easy to explain why Warren is happy to pick a fight with Michael. There's nobody left to destroy. Warren went after Preston Manning, and he went after Stockwell Day, and he went after Paul Martin; the schoolyard is empty now. Who to bully?

Opposition research, or 'OPPO,' is a necessary part of our political process. You've gotta say bad things about the other guy, sure. And when you're part of a team like Chretien's, it makes a lot of sense. You're being negative to help something positive.

But Team Chretien is gone now. Warren isn't picking on Michael to help a particular person (ostensibly); he's just picking on Michael. This is a totally different game. So let's just call this what it is; a consultant who trades on his notoriety is picking a fight with a strong candidate in the Liberal leadership. There is no evidence to suggest actual hatred. The term "hatred" is being used only to grab attention.

Let's not forget that Warren can come home. He was at LPCO, after all. It is only by choice that he is (cough) "Liberal in Exile;" furthermore, let's remember that he coined that phrase to explain why he wouldn't help Martin. Where is Martin now? What is this exile? It's Warren's excuse to not try and build something.

The Liberal leadership candidates don't have time to hate an outsider like Warren. They're too busy hating Stephen Harper and his inflationary tax policy and his detrimental environmental policy and David Emerson and Michael Fortier and the terrible softwood deal. They're too busy flying and bussing across Canada developing the future. They're too busy listening to Canadians. They don't have time to hate Warren Kinsella.

I for one think he's great. And I'm supporting Ignatieff. How can I manage this? Because I realize that Warren is just a talented political staffer. I can admire him and support Iggy - because I support his positive notion of what we should be building.

Yah, he doesn't really have much to say anymore. I don't understand his motives either

James try knowing what the fuck you talk about. He's an active Ontario Liberal and is on McGuinty's very sucessful team.

Helping Kick Mike Harris's ass means he could pretty much be forgiven of any other transgressions.

You want John Tory as premier? Dismiss Kinsella and the people who support him.

I heard that Kjnsella's new consulting firm (is it Daisy?) took on Stephane Dion as one of their first clients. It was in Warren's own blog right after they launched the new firm.

So - if that is true then attacking Iggy would be on behalf of a client.

The fact that he picked Iggy would suggest Dion considers him the primary competition.

James:

WK is not all that hard to understand. As he repeated many times about alleged Martin scandals like income trusts, "follow the money".

So follow the money:

- he gets paid as a staffer to Mr. Entitlements (Dingwall), so he attacks anyone who questions Mr. Entitlements.

- he gets paid as a staffer to Chretien, so he attacks anyone and everyone who is not fully praiseworthy of Chretien.

- he gets paid (indirectly) by the Harper campaign (they hired his former consulting firm Navigator), so he tells us that Harper's a great guy (other than Chretien, probably one of the only people he has made a concerted effort to be positive about).

- he gets paid as a consultant by McGuinty and suddenly McGuinty is "remarkable" and John Tory is a wealthy man unfit for office. (Tory's mistake was not actually paying Kinsella when Kinsella was campaigning for Tory's mayoral election. And s.b.: Kinsella never helped McGuinty fight Harris, get your facts straight. Harris was already gone.)

So now he has a new firm, Daisy. He has a couple of positive comments about Dion. He admits Dion was in the Daisy offices on its first day of business. He starts in on the constant negative smears primarily against Ignatieff but also the other perceived frontrunners like Bob Rae. He uses the same tactics of distorting quotations, leaving innuendo, etc.

I don't know if Daisy and Warren are in the pay of the Dion campaign. I've heard rumours and it would be consistent with his lifelong history of being available to the highest bidder, but I don't know if the rumours are true.

The unfortunate thing about Warren is that he is smart and funny. He's gone some strategic talent. But he is not a builder. He doesn't have a lot of positive energy in him. For that reason, he is not the right guy for the federal Liberals right now because we need to come together because of the trainwreck caused by him and people like him fighting it out for 2 decades.

Other than brave old Anonymous Rank and File there, I don't know where he gets the idea he is hated either. I think he doesn't understand or believe that the Ignatieff campaign is actually trying to do something different, i.e. being open to everyone.

Many may not agree with his views, but that's OK. We're all Liberals and the team is open to working with anyone and everyone who wants to work with or alongside him to defeat our real foe: the Conservatives.

There has to be some smaller teams right now, but eventually we are all on the same team.

Maybe Warren will decide that a federal Liberal government is better than a federal Conservative government. And the doors of the Liberals should always be open to those who want in.

Cerberus the Ignattieff campaign is stacking riding association meetings and buying off Youth Presidents with summer jobs to deliver their clubs.

Sorry but I have a problem with that. That's not openness that's coersion and undermining of party support to sent instant Liberals to meetings who will never be seen again.

Volpe is not the only one selling mass memberships. Your guy is too sweety.

Its not inclusive its cheating.

You really are obsessed with untruth aren't you Shoshana.

Do you have any idea what you are talking about?

How is he "stacking riding association meetings"? I spoke with the membership chair in our riding two days ago: both Kennedy's team and Rae's team had requested more membership forms than Ignatieff.

Please name a single riding association president he has bought off? The OYL President is working for Brison: was he "bought off"? I had coffee today with another great Ontario Young Liberal who is working full time for Kennedy... and he's getting paid... has Kennedy bought this young man's support? In my view, it is a healthy thing for the party to have young leaders of tomorrow engaging in the process and they are getting heavily involved for every candidate. We didn't have that last time out. I would have thought as a "teacher" you would have been supportive of young adults getting involved.

If you are going to libel someone, spread lies and allege criminal activity, please provide some details.

If you hate him as much as you seem to, then go ahead and attack his policies or things he's said about his priorities and where he wants to take Canada. That's what campaigns are for.

I suspect though that your ability to argue against is too weak which is why you constant go for the Old Regime style of attacks instead of intelligent debate.

Sad, really.

Sorry but I do not support any Liberal Leadership contender that hasn't lived in Canada for 30 years. To me he is CINO via his passport but to say he he is a citizen is beyond pale. There is much of his past that just doesn't jive with Canadian progressive views on 'war' and other policies mentioned by him. Mr Kennedy seems a good choice because of truly Canadian citizen concerns and his past as a sitting member of Ontario Political Government.

WWI, WWII, Korea, Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan.

In all but WWI, it was the Liberal Party that brought us into the war so don't give me this new found idea that war is a conservative ideology.

To my mind, war is a truly non-partisan obscenity.

Most wars must be avoided. In my book, only World War II was a truly legitimate war -- a deadly serious fight to the death between the forces of good and evil.

Evil lost. Hopefully, it will never live to fight another day.
